Apprenticeship ProgramsApprenticeship is a career development program where you earn while you learn. Depending on the occupation you choose, the 6000 to 8000 hours of on-the-job-training is approximately 4-6 years that an apprentice will be employed by contractors working on construction projects throughout the state of Oregon and SW Washington. The minimum requirements are that you are at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma, a GED or equivalent. Since this is a competitive process, we recommend that in order to maximize possible points applicants compile documentation of education, training and job experience to submit with your application. See the Application Scoring System and hints to being a successful applicant. Acting on this information will help you to be a more competitive applicant. If you are not ready to apply for apprenticeship or need assistance in pursuing what you need to make a winning application, there are organizations that provide pre-apprenticeship training and assistance. Oregon Tradeswomen, Youthbuilders, Portland Community College Trades Preparation Program, Evening Trades Apprenticeship Preparation, Irvington Covenant Project and Job Corps are approved pre-apprenticeship programs available to you. Visit how to apply for more information about the apprenticeship program or view a video clip (WMV, 2.2MB) about the training center.
